In her letter of nomination, Mary Sandberg wrote:
February 10, 2011
Mindy Klawitter, a life time member of Alexandria United Methodist Church, volun-
teered a year ago, to carry on the work as historian for the church. Through her recently
composed book, “Bi-Centennial 1810-2010, United Methodist Church, Alexandria,
Ohio”, she represents the work of the historians who went before her. A copy of this
book has been filed with the Archives of the United Methodist Church. Her motivation
came from her love of the church and the very people who she is honoring with this
work.
Over the period of the last year, she fine-tuned details by submitting monthly articles
in our newsletter, corresponding with other historians, and organizing artifacts for the
celebration that transpired October 10, 2010.
In preparation for the celebration, the local community July Funday event complete
with a float, costumes, and banners, brought awareness to the Bi-Centennial. A time
capsule was also compiled for this occasion.
Mindyʼs love of this church and the heritage of The United Methodist Church is
very evident in the written history. There was no shortness of energy and time
expended in the completion of this project by Mindy even though she is employed full time with a family of six children, with three teenage children still at home.
The richness of this history and the way she conveyed it makes her a perfect
candidate for Historian of the Year.
Sincerely,
(Rev.) Mary E. Sandberg
